Groundwater and Species at
Risk (Pilot Study)
We designed a
simple choice experiment to demonstrate the relationship between
seepages and persistence of threatened black redhorse (Moxostoma
duquesnei) populations in the Grand River, Ontario.
Using a randomized block design we tested habitat
preferences relative to the influence of groundwater for
juvenile black redhorse and greater redhorse (Moxostoma
valenciennesi). Future studies will include working
with the threatened silver shiner (Notropis photogenis).
